So, I kinda had a hard day today. Not anything life threatening, but quite stressful. Thank goodness Elementary school days are only 6 hrs long. Recently (more like a two months ago) I got a job as a teaching assistant for a pair of dual immersion classes (that means everything is taught in two languages). The second grade teacher had to go in for a training so she could be more awesome. The training was a full day deal, so she tried to get a substitute. BUT low and behold, the substitutes were on a non work day. How crazy is that? To have a Training and not have subs available. So yeah, me, just an aid with no fancy papers saying I know how to teach kids, ended up having to teach a room full of second graders for the entire day (and mind you they're cute sometimes, but I mean only sometimes).

So yeah I survived through the day. Feet and back ache a little from having to stand most of the time.
My least favorite part? It was probably all the noise, couldn't really get them to quiet down. I'm a pretty laid back kind of person when it comes to dealing with kids. The tactics other teachers use, I can't pull off. Too scared to use a very strong assertive voice on other people's kids. hmmm... I don't even know if I have one.
Ah, but my favorite part ^^? Was having them aw at the drawings I did for afternoon math. They were learning subtraction. had problems like I have a 20 dollar bill and a 5 dollar bill. I bought two transformer toys, and the special today was buy one get one half off. How much change did I recieve? So yeah, as you can assume the boys were ecstatic. And loved my transformer drawings...

I have a job! well sort of... It's part time. Oh and get to help a friend on her thesis film project. I'm going to be helping with costuming and props. And did I mention it's a musical?

DARI'S STORY TIME

Okay The stories I have promised are slowly emerging... >.> please don't judge me I have to dig back a couple of months... years.. >.>

Anime Banzai

Ha Ha. This section was meant for stuff at Banzai of '08. but silly me, I just got back from Banzai '09. That's just me, wait a year before typing anything up. '08 was great! '09... not as great but only as a result of something really good.

'08 This year was pretty awesome! Matt had never been to a con before, and I'm glad this was his first. I was late writing a paper on the friday of the con, so we got there really late that day.
I loved the formal. Matt and I had a special moment then <3. I went as Kairi in a prom attire with both Riku and Sora (my friends &)in suits. We were kinda bummed that the contest for the king and queen was only open to Anime character. Understandable with the number of people there, but still disappointing.
This was all made up for the following day. Sora, Riku and I entered the cosplay contest and we won an award. ^^ That was pretty much the sum of Banzai '08. Matt and I also had a fun time exploring all the different floors of the hotel.

'09 This is two years of Matt and I going to Anime Banzai, so that's a definite plus. I was originally going to go as Yoko Littner from Gurren Lagaan. But at the phase of preparation for the costume, I was with out a job and the wig was freaking expensive. So Friday I ended up not being able to cos as anyone. I did however make an awesome Spear for my friend . She went as Tear from Tales of the Abyss but she too ended up not finishing her costume (I'll post pictures up later). The formal was beautiful. I wasn't anybody, but I did wear my black and red Chinese dress, and put the skull hair clip I made for Yoko on. Matt enjoyed that I didn't really participate in a group cosplay. Guess it was because I could be with him all the time. lol.
Saturday was full and what I mean by full I mean... Way too many people. Registration doubled pretty much and well the location couldn't really support that many people. I cosplayed as Sheena Fujibayashi (gotta post pics of that too) that was fun. My friend went as Zelos with me. She definitely got a lot of reactions. BUT anyway yes it was crowded and I felt really bad at the many people who couldn't get into events. ^^ But it's the growing pains of a growing con. Things should get better though, they're moving it to DCC! Maybe a little longer drive, but the place is well worth it.

Lessons:
1. Always take extra Cash with you for food and in case you have to take a Taxi everywhere.
2. If you have 11 people in your group it's actually cheeper to rent a limo.
3. Be careful with Takoyaki. It's addictingly good... but you may regret eating too much of it.
4. Japanese Mayo is yummy.
5. Crayola Model Magic can be fixed by licking it.
6. If you are going to cosplay have some kind of income or at least a financier.
7. Don't forget to exercise and eat well or your costume will end up fitting your little sister better than yourself.
8. Model Magic shrinks a bit after it dries fully.
9. Networking is the best way to get a job. (Seriously it is.)
10. 2nd grade boys love transformers no matter how poorly you draw them.
11. Don't be afraid to ask people which line they are waiting in. You might end up figuring that your own line really isn't that long.
